Tobacco is one of the most useful things you can grow. Even if you don't smoke, you can barter or sell tobacco for a lot of money during the apocalypse.
Tobacco is a little tricky to grow. The seeds are super tiny. They should be started in a flat or a container of some sort. We made rectangular wooden flats that were about 4" deep and they worked perfectly. Once you have a container, fill it with fine soil and make sure its good and moist. Than, just sprinkle your tiny seeds on top and make sure the flats are in the shade – if they’re not, you may dry out the soil and kill the plants before they germinate. Keep your seeds misted with a spray bottle. The seedlings are super tiny, so you might not even see them when they start coming up. Basically, make sure they are moist and not in direct sunlight and they should take. In about 10-14 days you should start seeing them come up...at lest if you have good eyesight. They are very very small.
When your plants get about 2-3” tall, transplant them to a second flat until they’re large enough to transplant – or, if your weather is mild and the sun isn’t too brutal, put them directly out into the garden.
Tobacco grows well once it is established and nothing really wants to eat it.
